According to Felipe da Silva Marinho, clinical oncologist at Oncoclínica Recife (PE), sarcoma is a rare and very heterogeneous type of cancer, which presents more than 50 different subtypes. These characteristics make its treatment very challenging. In the 8th Oncoclínicas International Symposium, held virtually on November 20th, there was for the first time a table exclusively dedicated to this type of cancer. “More than ever, we have the challenge and the mission of having multidisciplinary discussions with the purpose of offering the best treatment strategy and follow-up for sarcoma patients”, says Carolina da Silva Cardoso, clinical oncologist at Oncocentro Belo Horizonte (MG). Although the heterogeneity of the disease has made the evolution of sarcoma treatment very discrete compared to other types of cancer, studies continue in search of new approaches.
