EMBOLISM

Embolism consists of a blockage of a blood vessel, caused by a cluster of blood cells, by bacteria, by a foreign body, or even by a cluster of tumor cells. Eventually, this blockage can be transported by the blood itself to another part of the body. If an embolism is caused by a cluster of blood cells, the term thromboembolism is commonly used.
