Segmented neutrophils are mature neutrophils, which have their nuclei divided into several lobes, connected by narrow segments. In a complete blood count, they correspond to the total number of neutrophils minus the number of band neutrophils.
This count is important for evaluating the health of the immune system. Usually, when the result shows a high number of segmented neutrophils, it may indicate a response of the immune system to a bacterial infection or inflammation.
