COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT

A complete blood count, or hemogram, is a blood test performed to evaluate the quantity of blood cells in an individual. Among the blood cells whose counts can be evaluated by the hemogram, the main ones are:

  • Red blood cells;
  • Neutrophils;
  • Lymphocytes;
  • Platelets;
  • Bands.

In oncology, a complete blood count can be used to diagnose or monitor the progression of hematological neoplasms, or to monitor possible side effects of treatment such as:

  • Anemia;
  • Neutropenia;
  • Thrombocytopenia.
