BONE SCINTIGRAPHY

Bone scintigraphy is a diagnostic method based on the injection of a weakly radioactive substance, whose emissions are captured, read, and transformed into images by a specific device for this purpose.

In oncology, scintigraphy is often used to investigate the presence of bone abnormalities. It should be noted that the exam is very sensitive, meaning that any present or past bone condition can be detected.

The exam is not very specific, meaning that it does not always differentiate the cause of these alterations. Thus, in some cases, the findings of scintigraphy may require further evaluation by other imaging exams such as radiology, computed tomography, etc.
